NEWS FLASH

To respond to the record-high number of homeless women seeking shelter, Susan’s Place underwent a renovation to create a new dorm to accommodate an additional 20 women. This new dorm is designated for medically frail and elderly homeless women. To ensure that these clients receive the special care they require, CFH created and filled a new position of Medical Case Manager, that is dedicated to ensuring that the medical needs of the clients are adequately considered and addressed in their search for permanent housing in the community.

Despite the economic challenges of the current recession, Care for the Homeless is committed to helping the increasing number of homeless individuals who desperately need our health care and shelter services.

Care for the Homeless arranges desperately needed health care for homeless people in places where they congregate and without regards to their ability to pay, contracting with licensed health facilities to provide health care services at 36 service sites in four of New York City's five boroughs.

In addition, our professional staff provides a full range of social services to clients in need, such as substance use and mental health services. We also provide health education and direct help with Medicaid.

In tandem with national, statewide, and citywide agencies, we participate in strong collaborations to provide homeless people with a real voice, helping to provide policy research and advocacy to address the needs of homeless people and shape society's response to them.
